We caught up with the SUPER talented and always gorgeous Gott Mik and talked about her career’s both as a celebrity makeup artist and a drag queen, her thoughts on trans representation within the community and what pride means to her! Check it out!

So Mik, obviously we are in unprecedented times. First off, how are you dealing with the quarantine so far?
I have been dealing with quarantine pretty well actually. Luckily I am quarantined with 5 of my best friends, so we all try to push each other to create and be productive each day. This pandemic has really brought back my love of doing makeup for fun! When I have to work every day it’s not very likely that I’m able to come home from set and get into drag just to be creative.
what advice do you have for any other artists right now in this pandemic
My main piece of advice is to try to keep a routine going even if it’s small. You do NOT have to reinvent the wheel just because you see people online doing the absolute most. It’s fine to just CHILL.

Now, you’re a drag queen but you’re also a celebrity and drag queen makeup artist, what got you into the world of makeup and drag?
I got into the world of makeup kind of by accident! I originally went to fashion school at FIDM, but the world of drag just drew me in! I started doing drag on myself, and then I met Mathu Anderson (who was RuPauls’ makeup artist at the time). He said he liked my makeup and suggested that I start painting queens! I painted Ginger Minj while Mathu did the hair as my first gig and I was obsessed. One day I found myself having to skip one of my finals to paint Paris Hilton for the cover of Plastik magazine and that’s when I realized that my makeup career was the most important thing in the world to me and the rest is HERSTORY!
Some of your past clients include Heidi Klum, Gigi Gorgeous, jeffree star and William to name but a few, who have been some of your favourite clients you’ve gotten to work with?
I have been so blessed to work with so many amazing artists! Anyone who makes the set day not feel like work is my favorite person in the world. Gigi Gorgeous, Detox, Alaska, Sharon Needles, Heidi Klum, they all make me feel like I could work every day until I the day I die because of how much fun I’m having while “working”.
Do you have an end goal? Is there any 1 thing that you want to do like TV makeup, or are you open to anything creatively?
I don’t really have an “end goal”. I’m very trusting in the universe and kind of just go where the wind takes me. I would definitely love to work everyday with amazing people that inspire me like Heidi Klum, but in 10 years if the universe gave me a completely new career path I’m not going to fight it. I love dabbling in as much art as possible.
You’re also trans queen correct?

Yes I am a trans, FTM, drag queen!
What are your opinions on trans representation and trans inclusion within the LGBTQ community – specifically the drag community?
I definitely don’t think there is enough trans inclusivity within the community let alone the drag community. I didn’t transition for SO long because I was very feminine and didn’t see anyone like me in the media, but one day I just had to wake up and be like “bitch snap out of it men can be feminine and you’re a man so get into it!”
Are you working on any upcoming projects at the moment? Anything you want to plug?
Right now weirdly enough I do not have any upcoming projects to talk about and I HATE that! I have a couple of things in the works but nothing far enough along to announce unfortunately. So SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ARTISTS. TIP THE DOLLS.
Very that! And finally, As queer people a word we use with power is ‘PRIDE’. What does pride mean to you?
Pride to me just means literally that. Celebrating every single part of who you are unapologetically. LOUD AND PROUD! I NEED pride month to kick my ass and remind me every year how important it truly is to be loud and open about who I am. You never know who you’re helping just by being you!
