Interview with Manila Luzon

We got to sit down with double all star Manila Luzon and talk about her past seasons of drag race and what is next for her! Enjoy.

Manila Luzon, its great to see you!

Oh thank you, it is great to see me, I look beautiful so…you’re welcome

Now, you have remained a fan favourite despite being from one of the earlier seasons, why do you think you initially stood out to fans?

I have no idea. To be honest when I was on season 3 I thought that I would be working for about a year before I had to go back to my old work, but I have been working as a drag queen ever since. The show just keeps getting bigger and better and the audience keeps increasing, so with every new season they go back and watch the re-runs of the older seasons, so that definitely helps my career

A lot of fans, including me, think that all stars season one gave the Queens kind of a raw deal with the whole ‘team’ think what do you think now looking back at that season?

Well, at the time that was what was given to us and when you go on RuPaul’s drag race you have a limited amount of time limited amount of supplies and that’s the challenge. Our challenge on all – stars was to succeed in the competition with a partner, and you know, if you are going to be doing partner figure skating you wouldn’t just show up to the Olympics and be final partnerif you are going to be doing partner figure skating you wouldn’t just show up to the Olympics and be final partner it would’ve been better and we all came in together as teams if they wanted to do that it would’ve been better and we all came in together as teams if they wanted to do that but they wanted to ‘gag’ us and they wanted to see off work under pressure they wanted to see us work under pressure. but it was a lot of fun, I was really happy to be a part of all stars even though I didn’t get as far as I wanted to people still had fun watching.

Some good call you a chameleon of drag, you sing, you can act, you do comedy. What’s next for you?

Hmm…I guess run for president of the United States maybe? I mean, I already meet all of the requirements to do that. I have a twitter account, Ive been on reality Tv and I wear wigs…so I guess that makes me qualified right? (laughs)

And finally, as queer people a word we use with a lot of power is the word ‘Pride’, what does pride mean to you?

Pride is really special to me because I feel like they didn’t have very much of it because I came from a place where was ashamed of who I was but now it feels nice to be like “you know what, I’m happy with who I am”, and I’m happy to show who I am two other people to help inspire them to be themselves.

Huge thanks to Manila Luzon and all of our readers for making this interview possible, we do want to state that this interview took place before All-Stars 4 had aired so we could not ask any questions about that season. hope you all enjoyed!
